TNR Efforts Rescue One More Stray at 11th Ave. South
A gray and white adult male tuxedo cat will be returning home after a trip to the veterinarian today. Trapped on Tuesday near the 11th Avenue South beach access, the feline is part of a large colony sheltering in the area.
Since August, Cats of the Boardwalk founders Laurie and Ron Peterson have been working to manage the local stray population through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) practices while placing eligible kittens up for adoption. To date, they have returned six adults after neutering.
On a daily basis, care for the large group of stray and feral cats and kittens has been managed by residents at South Seas Hotel located there. It is estimated the majority of the 30 or so felines living around the property remain unneutered.
Laurie personally trapped the tuxedo cat, transported it to a Fix-A-Friend clinic in NC for care, and is now returning it to its familiar surroundings. Thanks to these ongoing TNR efforts, this cat will no longer contribute to the growing population.
