COTB Looks for Help with Pets and Their Humans Faced with Eviction
With about only two-weeks’ notice before being evicted, a long-term resident at a Myrtle Beach hotel reached out to founder and president of Cats of the Boardwalk, Laurie Peterson, in order to arrange care for a feral cat colony as well as rehoming pets left behind by residents who have already moved out.
South Seas Hotel at 11th Avenue South and Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach will be going through a renovation until February, according to sources who spoke with a reporter at WMBF News on Monday. The reporter interviewed Laurie, who’s been trapping, neutering and returning (TNRing) feral cats at the South Seas for a few weeks. Laurie’s become familiar with some members of the feral cat colonies and the residents who feed them.
Laurie contacted local TV news stations in the hopes media coverage would lead to shelter solutions for both pets and people. It so happens Laurie’s husband Ron volunteers at the Myrtle Beach soup kitchen, which makes the couple familiar with available food and shelter services.
