The Story of How I Adopted Mufasa
By: Tiffany Emma Rose
I was asked to share the story of how I came to adopt Mufasa, and it all started with a simple sick visit at the hospital where I work.
I first met Mufasa when he was brought in for an abscessed wound on his face. Laurie, the woman who brought him in, explained that he had just been trapped and needed to be examined. The doctor and I carefully clipped and cleaned the wound, and we gave him an antibiotic injection to help clear up the infection.
What surprised me most was how incredibly sweet and trusting he was throughout the entire visit. For a little kitten who had just been trapped, he was absolutely perfect. He never stopped amazing me with how calm and trusting he was while we cared for him.
After his exam, I spent a few minutes talking with Laurie about Mufasa and the work she does helping trap and care for the beach cats. Before we went our separate ways, I gave her my phone number.
About an hour later, I realized I couldn’t stop thinking about that little kitten. There was just something about him that stayed with me. So, I texted Laurie and asked how he was doing and whether I could see him again. Of course, she said yes!
I was so excited to see him again. A few days later, Laurie sent me some updated pictures of Mufasa, and I couldn’t stop smiling when I saw them. We continued texting back and forth, and before long, I realized that I had made my decision: I wanted to adopt him.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take him home right away because of other commitments, but on December 28th, I finally brought Mufasa home. Looking back, it truly felt like one of the best Christmas presents I could have ever received.
Since the day he came into my life, Mufasa has brought me more joy and love than I could have imagined. He has become such an important part of my life and has completely captured my heart.
Today, Mufasa has an older puppy sister, Layla, who absolutely loves playing and snuggling with him, and a human mom who loves him more than anything. I often think about how lucky I was that a little kitten with an abscessed face walked into my hospital that day. I went into that appointment simply hoping to help him get better, never realizing that I was meeting a little soul who would eventually become such a special part of my family.
Sometimes, the best things in life find us when we least expect them — and for me, that was Mufasa.
